General Motors Senior System Engineer - Voice Capture (Microphones) - ENG0038097 in Warren, Michigan

In this role the Voice Capture Systems Engineer will be part of the Infotainment Systems Engineering organization working within the Voice Technology team.

This engineer will create detailed requirements for the Infotainment/Telematics voice capture systems and components (microphone, voice capture algorithms) used for speech recognition, hands-free, in-car communication and other applications. Interact across organizations to ensure the voice capture system and components are properly integrated into the vehicle. Lead advanced development work around the voice capture system and components.

Specific voice capture system and component responsibilities:

  • Develop technology roadmap: microphones and voice capture algorithms
  • Lead advanced development work
  • Develop Global Engineering requirements for the voice capture system and components (includes voice capture algorithm and microphone interface; packaging, and best practices) as part of the larger Infotainment/Telematics system
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for voice capture system & component (includes voice capture algorithms and microphone interfaces) to the rest of the GM community
  • Support suppliers in the development of the voice capture system and components into GM products

Areas of expertise: microphone design and packaging, MEMS microphones, microphone arrays, beamforming algorithms, system simulation tools (MATLAB/SIMULINK), speech/audio characteristics, voice processing, sound quality (including use of sound quality tools & equipment), vehicle acoustic.

Basic Required:

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area
  • Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in EE, computer science, mechanical, acoustical engineering or similar discipline

Basic Preferred:

  • Prototyping experience
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Master’s degree in EE, computer science, mechanical, acoustical engineering or similar discipline
