About the Position: The Program Executive Office, Ground Combat Systems (PEO GCS) is responsible for providing world-class affordable, relevant and sustainable ground combat vehicles to Joint Warfighters. With a focus on developing current and future systems, PEO GCS is leading the production and management of all combat vehicles for the Army. Responsibilities

Applies mastery knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of engineering fundamentals involving a combination of professional engineering work.

Incumbent has managerial and decision authority for either systems or technical engineering and logistical developments in all phases of System programs that have broad impact within DOD, DA, and PEO/PM.

Responsible for guiding the work through subordinates or other personnel by means of periodic reviews, briefings, reports, or observations.

Incumbent is the primary contact with the sponsors of various programs under their management responsibility and provides information and advice to higher level managers when the work of the unit impacts other groups.

Incumbent develops, plans, implements, reviews, and directs assigned program that involves work in areas of considerable engineering difficulty and complexity.

Represents PEO/PM at conferences and meetings with the most senior representatives from DOD, DA, MACOMs, other services, foreign governments and industry.

A. Have a degree in Engineering. Degree-- To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR

B. Have a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Professional Registration or Licensure-- Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. OR

C. Have a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. OR

D. Have a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Specified Academic Courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional Engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)

OR E.Have a combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Related Curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive.) (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts) (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts along with a letter of reference stating that you have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. The letter must be signed by the engineer who provided the professional engineer supervision. It must also include their name, phone number, and list their engineer credentials such as engineer education or professional certificates.) In addition to the basic education requirements for the disciplines identified above, applicant must also meet the specialized experience described below. Specialized Experience: your resume must describe at least one year specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03 (GS 13 or equivalent) level in the Federal Service that includes the ability to: (1) direct assigned programs that involves work in areas of considerable engineering difficulty and complexity; (2) provide guidance for all engineer related activities (i.e. design, development, systems integration); (3) execute multiple mission focused acquisition programs; (4) synchronize development of multiple armor/survivability solutions and coordinate field delivery dates with logistics personnel; (5) manage of all phases of the life cycle and sub systems and components'; and (6) promulgate innovative solutions and methodologies. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service NH-03 or (GS-13 equivalent). This position may be filled by Temporary Promotion, Temporary Reassignment or Change to Lower grade not to exceed 3 years by a current Army employee. Position may be extended up to 5 years and may be converted to permanent without further competition. This position may be extended in one year increments for up to five years. This is an Army Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Workforce position. This is a Critical Acquisition Position (CAP).
