General Purpose of Position :
Create finished three-dimensional scale and full size models of proposed vehicle, components and mobility solutions. Execute digital models by developing aesthetic surfaces which meet time and quality requirements as directed by Sculpting Leadership for assigned programs. Contribute to problem solving with design and engineering stakeholders, assisting in the development and execution of property planning. Support Sculpting leadership with mentoring others in efficient methods for developing models, integrating new technologies, and creating workflows. Work involves considerable creativity and skill and is performed with other modelers on a team or independently at times.
Major Duties and Responsibilities :
Creates new and improves upon existing models using AliasStudio and other digital tools.
Develop surfaces for digital models throughout the GVDP (Global Vehicle Development Process)
Support surface releases which meet design approval, production engineering, and data release requirements
Comprehend program timelines and all relating model quality requirements
Adhere to and assist in developing common GM Global Design processes / best practices
Frequently assist studio personnel in developing solutions to engineering and design problems
Knowledge of current trends in design, materials, technology, production methods and product engineering processes
Attend appropriate program related meetings as defined by Sculpting Leadership
Perform accurate assessment of digital surface quality
Adhere to corporate data management processes (TeamCenter, SharePoint, etc.) and communication systems (timekeeping, email, etc.)

Skills and Abilities :
High Level of technical proficiency
Expertise in the use of creative / technical digital modeling equipment to develop surfaces that meet design and engineering specifications
Highly skilled with sketch interpretation/ability to translate Design input into 3D models
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Strong oral and written communications skills
Functional knowledge in the use of current office software (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.) with an ability to create presentations/communication documentation
Ability to estimate timing requirements for model execution
Insight into future product technology, design process technology and design tools (i.e. NX and Alias)
Ability to Lead program execution if assigned by Sculpting Management team (see Lead Sculptor Assignment doc for role/responsibilities)
Education and/or Training :
- College degree OR equivalent industry related experience required.
