Munson Medical Center Media Specialist - CATV/Conferencing Specialist in Traverse City, Michigan


Munson Healthcare seeks an experienced Media Specialist with a strong background in AV and CATV systems. The Media Specialist should have exceptional computer skills related to conferencing on collaboration systems such as Skype, Zoom, or Polycom based systems.

*Video production experience does not qualify as applicable experience for this position unless both AV/CATV and conferencing collboaration system experience exists.


  • Bachelors degree or equivalent training in multimedia technology, photography, videography, basic electronics, digital video, non-linear editing, broadcasting, satellite programming, and computer applications.

  • Minimum one year on-the-job experience in developing and producing effective video training program(s).

  • Strong skills in computer based technologies, including digital storage, acquisition and data compression.

  • Ability to troubleshoot media equipment including computer presentations.

  • Six months previous experience in interactive video teleconferencing preferred.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in good public relations and communication skills.

  • Ability to lift and move media equipment


  • Reports to Manager of Information Systems, Telecommunications.

  • Has contact with external vendors.

  • Exercises courtesy, friendliness and tact in dealing with all hospital staff and public.

  • Must be able to develop good communication with all members of the organization and public.

  • Assesses Munson Healthcare media support needs, and in cooperation with requesting departments, plans, designs, develops and produces multi media programs (including video teleconferences, audio, video productions, slides, multi-image programs, computer based presentations, etc.).

  • Provides technical assistance to departments on the development and use of audiovisual programs and equipment rental or purchase.

  • Works as videographer, audio technician, on-line editor, project manager, and accountant to prepare and complete a video or multi-media program, duplication and distribution.

  • Controls programming and scheduling of patient education on closed circuit television system.

  • Recommends audiovisual policies and procedures for the health care system.

  • Plans, recommends and monitors departmental expense and capital budgets. Reports department activities and progress to manager.

  • Provide technical assistance for audiovisual equipment use.

  • Inventories, inspects, maintains, repairs or arranges for the repair of audiovisual equipment.

  • Maintains an inventory of AV supplies, maintenance or repairs.

  • Instructs hospital staff in the operation and use of audiovisual equipment.

  • Evaluates customer service satisfaction through surveys.

  • Organizes and prioritizes project requests.

  • Maintains accurate record of all projects and production master library.

  • Provides instruction on set up, use, and operations of the interactive video equipment. Assists customers as requested.

  • Instructs staff in the use of computer presentation software and hardware.

  • Assists staff in digital image acquisition and manipulation using a variety of computer software.

  • Trouble shoots basic computer problems related to media services.

  • Keeps abreast of current technologies and the computer software, hardware and peripherals. Based on current information makes recommendations on purchases related to media services.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
