Decision Support Specialist
Salary Range:Commensurate with experience
The Decision Support Specialist will provide financial and statistical analysis to assess the financial and operational impacts of management decisions and proposals. Also will provide analytical operations support using a variety of data sources and analyze data to identify areas of opportunity, develop proposals and strategies for program development and revisions to existing programs. You will also identify cost control and cost management issues and recommend actions to resolve.
This position is open to working on the Petoskey or Flint Campus.
With Bachelor's Degree, five years of prior experience in healthcare financial forecasting or healthcare financial analysis to include a minimum of five (5) years experience dealing with hospital clinical and financial data. Expertise working with large databases, data extraction and analysis.
Without Bachelor's degree, ten years in healthcare financial forecasting or healthcare financial analysis dealing with hospital clinical and financial data. Expertise working with large databases, data extraction and analysis.
Minimum of two years of formal university-level technical education in Computer Science or Engineering to include 20 years in a hospital system work environment supporting Finance.
Preferred:Bachelor's degree in Finance or Engineering.
Other Job Requirements:
Financial, analytical and data systems knowledge and experience coupled with the ability to analyze and interpret data to support management, frequently in the absence of guidelines or technical assistance.
Ability to extract data and analyze using a variety of tools including Access, Excel is required.
Prior experience working with a decision support system such as EPSI, Paragon, or Kaufman Hall (preferred).
Knowledge of hospital cost accounting principles and hospital reimbursement.
Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, plan steps to accomplish goals and objectives in a timely manner.
Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of accounting and financial processes.
Knowledge of appropriate input data including payroll, general ledger, third party payor parameters and patient data.
Understanding of how costs are calculated and overhead allocation methodologies.
Comprehension of financial statements and reimbursement contractual models.
Aptitude to extract data from various financial systems and provide to customers in appropriate formats.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for frequent contact with internal customers.
