Job Description SummaryThe Director, Product Development will lead and deliver next-generation Ryder products and services. This role is a critical component to Ryder's complex software ecosystem in charge of championing the users and customers of the business as it executes the overall vision, strategy, and roadmap.

The Director, Product Development will support the overall strategy by steering a multi-disciplinary team comprising of product associates, designers, researchers, technologists, and logistics subject matter experts to discover and deliver innovative products that are valuable, reputable, and practical for Ryder's users and customers.

With an in-depth understanding of Agile and Deep Thinking methodologies, the Director, Product Development is essential to helping shape an impactful market experience as efficiently as possible for clients. Additionally, the Director, Product Development will be knowledgeable in Design Thinking, bringing to bear a human-centered approach for discovering unmet opportunities through customer-centric techniques.

A day in the life of the Director, Product Development will include performing immersions with customers, account teams, and other users of the product, documenting use cases, business requirements, workflows, and personas for new product features, then building a backlog of features for the product road map, writing and presenting user stories to support feature development, providing support to the product development team, and performing demonstrations and overviews of the product as a subject matter expert.

Combining strategic, high-level thinking with hands-on in-the-trenches tactics, this role requires a change agent with relentless curiosity about what is coming next in the world of supply chain innovation. This role will help translate the overall product vision into tangible user stories that will shape the design, development and deployment of a successful product.

The Director, Product Development will support the Product teams from concept to launch and beyond, and must thrive within a lean-matrixed, entrepreneurial environment. Success requires exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, along with an ability to solve problems collaboratively and dynamically on the fly.Requirements

  • Master's degree (MBA) required

  • A minimum of eight (8) years prior product management experience of business planning methodology's, competitive analysis, and strategy development

  • Exceptional knowledge of sales, marketing and product development processes

  • Strong organizational skills. Strong leadership, sales support, project management and training skills

  • Experience with, or ability to understand, commercial implications of solutions proposed, potential areas of risk and methods to limit liabilities

  • Demonstrated skills in organizational group process, problem identification and resolution at both a strategic and functional level

  • Excellent strategic thinking, market research, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to deliver strong presentations to all audiences

  • High degree of comfort with senior leadership and management presence

  • Solid analytical skills (including financial) to drive fact- based analysis of the market

  • Creative ability to develop differentiated offerings in communication

  • Demonstrated ability to manage external vendor relationships

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and influence all levels within an organization

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, market research principals, marketing segmentation principals, graphic design, HTML, marketing automation systems, and business-to-business marketing

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and disseminate an in-depth understanding of the FMS/SCS target market segments and associated customer needs through the extensive use of business expertise and available market research tools.

  • Develop Market Requirements Document and create product business case for new products that clearly address customer requirements

  • Work closely with the Group Director, Marketing to develop a product portfolio strategy inclusive of product performance tracking metrics and rationalization strategy

  • Define and manage product roadmap definition and life cycle to ensure profitable revenue throughout the entire product life cycle from ideation to post-launch product phases, with a clear & complete product view throughout

  • Design and implement product launch plans including offline and online channels

  • Collaborate cross functionally to establish PR plans, lead generation activities, pricing strategies, market development activities and sales activities

  • Complete competitive analysis and provide competitive insights to the organization

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement product positioning training along with materials for sales and operations

  • Develop standardized sales presentations, proposals, scripts, etc.

  • Create marketing collateral including case studies, data sheets, whitepapers, FAQ, feature or benefit sheets, etc.

  • Track customer care, dashboard, metrics and customer satisfaction to measure performance and use of existing and new functionalities and features

  • Perform analysis of customer / market information, identification of implications, and development of segmentation based on internal & external sources

  • Develops well-defined customer information requirements clearly linked to strategic directives

  • Develops a synthesized repository of internal and external sources leveraging data across Ryder

  • Acts as the product expert for the identified product lines, including ownership of product line definition/specifications, product positioning, features/benefits communication, product training, and day-to-day management

  • Monitors industry, technology, and business trends to identify opportunities/threats Benchmarks competitive products to identify sources of competitive advantage

  • Develop and implement product positioning training along with materials for sales and operations
