Application Engineering Lead – Wire Harness / Battery Interconnects

We are looking for an ambitious, hands-on Applications Engineer to join our team and drive the adoption of CelLink’s technology within the automotive industry. As CelLink has just recently expanded to the Detroit Metro area, this is a great opportunity for a new team member to join
and get in on the “ground floor” and at an exciting inflection point for the company. CelLink was founded in 2012 and entered volume production in 2018. The company has raised approximately $35M in funding to date through a combination of private investment and multiple grants from the US Department of Energy. CelLink’s investors include Franklin Templeton, Fontinalis Partners, 3M, Bosch, SK Telecom, Ford, and BMW.
We are currently seeking a driven, energetic individual to join CelLink as an Applications Engineerin the Detroit Metro area, joining CelLink’s Detroit-based Vice President of Automotive BusinessDevelopment as a key member of our team. This will be a multi-faceted role which will 1) directly interface with OEM and Tier customers to design, test, and develop flex circuit products, 2) create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of flex circuit products, 3) work with process engineering to validate that design intent is maintained within manufacturing/assembly process, and 4) a myriad of other hands-on tasks.
This is a unique opportunity to wear different “hats” every day as we navigate the automotiveelectronics space – some days meeting with customers to hash out designs and technical specs,some days actually creating designs in the 3D and 2D CAD software environments, some daystesting and validating prototype parts, some days working on strategy and partnerships - andsome days smiling at the direct impact your efforts have had on creating a brand new automotive supplier.
Duties for this position include:
Definition and documentation of required flex circuit product features based on customerand system-level requirements.
Negotiate technical requirements and specifications with OEM and Tier customers.
Coordinate technical reviews and submission of deliverables such as 3D data, customerapproval drawings and component drawings in line with key program dates.
Support our team by applying knowledge of product development cycle and APQPdisciplines to meet all product deadlines.
Proactively seeking out new customer opportunities with existing products or newproducts for continued business growth.
Direct creation of 3D models and 2D wire harness drawings based on customer inputs (3Ddata, Engineering Changes, red-marks, etc.)
Package components and wire harnesses into vehicles in the 3D environment.
Support CAD best practices and processes to ensure design quality meets performancespecifications.
Support Design reviews and DFM analysis.
Support analysis of circuitry and sub-systems.
Ensure design meets customer and internal requirements.
DVP&R (Design Verification Process & Report) creation to validate customerrequirements along with DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and othertesting/reporting to achieve PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)
A qualified candidate will have a large subset of these skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
5+ years of automotive design experience in either connectors, terminals, wire harness,high voltage components, ECUs/control modules, or battery packs.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Solidworks, CATIA V5, or AutoCAD tool sets, as youwill be responsible for developing and releasing 3D and 2D drawings for flex circuits forwire harness, battery interconnects, power electronics, etc.
Experience in simulation (FEA and CFD) analysis and interpretation.
Experience of product design or application engineering with a customer interactioncomponent.
Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and EnvironmentalManagement Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
Working experience with automotive OEM mechanical/electrical/environmentalperformance specifications (i.e. USCAR-2, USCAR-12, USCAR-17, USCAR-21, USCAR-37,USCAR-38, etc.)
Understand requirements of wire harness and battery performance & test specifications.
Working experience with Quality & Reliability disciplines (FMEA, 8D, APQP) anddevelopment process (PLM or PDM).
Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation), with ability to discusstechnical materials with wide range of audiences.
Can talk to different levels of management and people with different levels of expertise.
Self-starter – not afraid to get your hands dirty, take the lead, wear different role hatsdepending on the day in a fast-paced startup atmosphere.
Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering desired.

Position will be based in Metro Detroit with occasional travel (10%) to CelLink HQ (CA)and customers around the country.
