The Metadata Manager is responsible for and oversees all metadata-related processes for the University Libraries’ physical and electronic collections.
Bachelor’s degree Minimum two years library technical services experience, especially in metadata management or integrated library system experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively between and among internal and external departments Experience in successful trouble shooting and problem solving Demonstrated skills with scripting languages and/or tools for data manipulation (e.g., OpenRefine, Python, XSLT, etc.) Working knowledge of MARC and RDA cataloging protocols. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Supervisory experience Understanding of linked data principles, including RDF and ontologies Knowledge of BIBFRAME Familiarity with institutional repository platform software Experience with library discovery/search tools Familiarity with OAI-PMH protocol for metadata harvesting. Familiarity with authority data (e.g., LC authorities, ORCID, ISNI, etc.)
Duties & Responsibilities
Develops and implements efficient metadata workflows Coordinates with AMS Director to engage with stakeholders to identify metadata needs Assists in the setup and continuing access of electronic information resources. Primary responsibility for link maintenance and troubleshooting access problems. Plans and implements projects related to metadata management activities. Maintains awareness of new technologies with a view to applying them to metadata management or related activities. Coordinates the automated processing of CMU theses & dissertations for inclusion in institutional repository. Communicates actively with external providers, including publishers, vendors, and content providers, to ensure timely and continuing access to materials. Monitors external developments and changing needs in these areas Direct supervision of Metadata Specialist. Trains staff and maintains procedure manual. Other duties as assigned.
