The Vice President, Masco Operating System (MOS), in conjunction with our Business Units and Corporate leadership, has responsibility for the continued development, promotion and strategically aligned implementation of Masco’s enterprise-wide operating system designed to drive world-class results in customer satisfaction, quality, on-time delivery, customer-value, and ultimately operating financial performance. Reporting directly to Masco’s Chief Executive Officer, this executive will provide the thought leadership, strategic direction, and tactical implementation leadership and support for the development and advancement of a lean operating system across Masco’s operating Business Units. In addition, the Vice President, MOS will provide executive leadership for continuous improvement of the company’s Supply Chain (sourcing) capabilities driving breakthrough performance in supplier quality, delivery, and cost in support of the Company’s various P&L operating units.
The Vice President, MOS is responsible for building and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement that permeates all areas of Masco.
Specific responsibilities include:
Build MOS capability across the enterprise
Serve as thought partner to CEO regarding our operating system and MOS philosophy/approach
In collaboration with the businesses, identify additional opportunity for operational/commercial improvement
With a consultative mind set, work side-by-side with business leaders to drive improvements – understand center led versus centralized
Enable the use of MOS thinking and tools to drive Business Unit and Masco strategy
Develop and implement processes resulting in self-sustaining MOS capability throughout Masco
Provide thought and tactical implementation leadership on the execution of MOS throughout Masco
Ensure operating metrics and key performance indicator systems are consistently tracking the appropriate measures and provoking appropriate responsive behavior
Participate in Business Unit operating reviews to ensure focus and sense of urgency with respect to MOS implementation priorities.
Constructively challenge Business Unit use of MOS to deliver world-class results
Help drive Masco “best practices” across the business units
Assist operating management in meeting and exceeding performance objectives through MOS implementation
Assist in implementing MOS with the supply base
Develop talent of extended MOS teams (assessments, top-grading and recruitment, on-the-job and classroom training, certification processes)
Provide support for acquisition due diligence and integration
Lead benchmarking studies as required to expose Masco leadership to cutting edge best practices and to continuously improve the MOS
Communicate to major customers and the investment community, as appropriate, Masco’s competitive advantage resulting from MOS leverage
Meet/exceed supply chain / sourcing financials and operating targets including but not limited to, cost reduction, inventory reduction, supplier reduction, etc.
Actively assess the centralized corporate functions (MOS, Supply Chain, IT, and Technical Services) and develop and execute a sound overall organization strategy for optimal level of centralization/decentralization of resources
Provide oversight for the management of all aspects of a continuously evolving global supply base
Play an active role in setting strategic direction for the company on matters related to sourcing and sourced items
Undergraduate degree is required with an advanced degree preferred.
Professional & Personal
The successful candidate will possess a proven track record of delivering results in a high-performance / high-expectation continuous improvement environment through implementation of and expertise with the latest lean management methods. Demonstrated business acumen and a basic understanding of the P&L and balance sheet are required, as is a general management thought-process. It is likely that the successful candidate will possess a progressively responsible career track in manufacturing operations / operational excellence, and possibly general management and/or commercial leadership, with practical experience in international settings. It will be a distinct advantage to have managed in a distributed multi-facility environment given this position’s responsibilities to indirectly influence throughout a large complex organization in order to achieve measurable results.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated competency in development and execution of strategy on a global basis, as well as in management of day-to-day operations. A mindset that balances both thought and innovation with direct and successful execution is critical. He/she will possess a minimum of 15 years of operational and/or commercial leadership experience. He/she will have earned a reputation for having successfully implemented lean management processes and led the change process. He/she will also have a working knowledge of the cultural issues impacting lean implementation and demonstrate success in overcoming these issues. Beyond the manufacturing industry, this executive may have had previous experience in operations consulting with an approach based on the Toyota Production System / similar, or in other industries that would bring vigor to the company’s developing Lean Operating System processes.

High degree of credibility to be convincing and persuasive
Ability to design, develop and execute lean operating system roadmaps for the operating units
Demonstrated knowledge of, and familiarity with, a variety of TPS/Lean Sigma tools including but not limited to: VSM, Standard Work, Pull Systems & Kanban, SIOP, Lean Daily Management, 5S/Visual Management, 3P, SMED, TPM, Transactional Process Improvement, Variation Reduction Kaizen & Six Sigma, etc. Black Belt certification is desirable but not required, as is experience with and understand of a variety of "growth tools” such as VOC, NPD, NPI, Value Selling, etc.
Ultimately, the successful candidate will bring a dynamic combination of experiences with the interpersonal and communication skills that afford him/her superior credibility and leadership within the Masco Leadership Team, and down through all levels of the organization. He/she will work across many peers and indirect subordinates in a matrixed environment, all the while a hands-on, proactive, creative, and disciplined manner.
