Jackson National Life Insurance Company Sr Cloud Solutions Specialist in Lansing, Michigan

Job Purpose

The Sr Cloud Solutions Specialist is responsible for implementing and integrating different tools, technologies and supporting processes that enable the enterprise to deploy, manage and update infrastructure, configurations and developed code to support business objectives.The Sr Cloud Solutions Specialist works closely with the Digital Architects and the Cloud Engineers to bring in new tools and technologies and after initial stand up work to operationalize by enhancing the capabilities, maturity, and automation of those tools and technologies

Essential Responsibilities

Collaborates with other Cloud Solutions Specialists, Cloud Engineers and Digital Architects in developing complex end-to-end Enterprise solutions.

Analyzes requirements and recommends solutions to integrate application/software/system components.

Troubleshoots system deficiencies and performs programming activities to address programming errors or potentially needed enhancements.

Expertly utilizes development tools and maintains an expert level of programming languages and technologies. Also guides others on how to expertly leverage tools and technology.

Promotes quality by performing code reviews, developing and enforcing coding standards, recognizing system deficiencies, and implementing effective solutions.

Gathers business requirements, develops technical documentation, and promotes the use of existing documentation.

Expertly responds to the needs of internal and external clients and clearly articulates ideas and plans with clients and team members.

Ensures all solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and appropriate reusability and reliability upon deployment.

Researches trends and new technologies and works to identify their effect on current implementations.

Drives evolution and adoption of different platforms, gathers information on differences in cloud-native implementations, runs research on the platform behavior under different workloads.

Identifies integration points between systems and is able to articulate into manageable tasks.

Mentors and trains developers in building cloud-native applications and adoption of new platforms based on scalable, portable, and resilient designs.

Reviews a platform used in the Enterprise and suggests improvements in automation, CI/CD practices, security, and platform services.

Actively seeks and participates in personal and team development opportunities to meet departmental goals. Maintains knowledge in field of expertise and provides development resources and opportunities for team members.

Works closely with other teams to develop product roadmaps for Integration platforms like Kubernetes, Service Mesh and Cloud.

Promotes technology platforms by developing standards, guidelines and best practices, tools and utilities for business agility.

Continues to identify and build additional platform capabilities to meet project needs.

Ensures that the platforms are positioned for operational support by Service Management teams

Researches trends and new technologies and works to identify their effect on current implementations.

Other Duties

Provides scheduled on-call 24x7 system support on a rotational basis.

May participate in the evaluation and recommendation of new technology.

Presents information to clients and peers.

Performs other special projects or duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience with cloud network architectures and the integration with hybrid cloud networking.

Experience in architecting, designing, and developing applications in multi-cloud environments.

Knowledge of common full life cycle development processes.

Knowledge of development technologies such as Java, J2EE and JavaScript, NodeJS, Quarkus, SpringBoot, Angular etc.

Experience with Micro-services technologies like Apigee Gateway, REST, SOAP, XML/JSON, XSLT, etc.

Familiarity with design patterns, domain-driven design, component-based architecture, and evolutionary architecture.

Advanced knowledge of cloud-native architecture concepts, understanding of high availability, scalability, resilience, performance, and security requirements in the cloud.

Ability to successfully manage multiple projects in a changing technical environment.

Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to develop technical and business solutions.

Experience with Cloud Native Platforms including Kubernetes, Open Shift, Docker Enterprise, or Cloud Foundry in the public cloud.

Experience with Containers and/or Serverless, Microservices, Functions, Event-driven/reactive programming or other Cloud Native architectures.

Experience leading DevOps and Agile transformations in medium to large environments.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong analytical ability.

Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment to achieve desired results.

Ability to work extended hours as needed.

Must be able to multi-task, work independently and as part of a team, share workloads, and deal with sudden shifts in project priorities.


Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and/or education required.

5+ years of relevant experience required.

3+ years of experience in designing, executing, and supporting Multi-Cloud solutions. required.

3+ years of experience with systems integration. required.

Experience with Apigee Gateway preferred.

Azure certification (e.g. in areas of cloud architecture, micro services, and security). upon hire preferred.

Cloud Native Computing Foundation – Certified Kubernetes Application Developer upon hire preferred.

Financial services experience and professional insurance designations upon hire preferred.
