Michigan Department of Transportation MDOT Geographic Information System Manager in Lansing, Michigan

Position functions as a first-line manager of a complex work area. Position is responsible for managing the Geographic Information System (GIS) Unit within the Bureau of Transportation Planning. The position is responsible for coordinating the activities of the GIS Unit and direct oversight of the GIS Unit staff. This unit is responsible for the coordination of geospatial technology and critical business workflows related to physical transportation assets. Activities range from data collection methods, data definitions and ensuring adherence to the departmentrsquo;s data standards to delivering data to end users for decision support on a variety of platforms. The GIS Unit serves in a critical central role as it relates to the GIS centric Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS). The GIS unit manager is responsible for partnering with DTMB to ensure that departmental geospatial data is properly maintained, stored and delivered to customers, business systems and software as required. This includes the administration of MDOTrsquo;s ArcGIS Online (AGO) and SDE database environments.The GIS unit has a prominent role in the management of the GIS roadway and Linear Referencing System (LRS) for the State of Michigan in partnership with the Center for Shared Solutions and in cooperation with the Michigan Geographic Framework (MGF) and establishing transportation LRS standards. Ensuring the adherence to those standards and federal program requirements is critical to the success of maintaining the departmentrsquo;s eligibility of receiving federal funding.The GIS unit is also responsible for conducting the Road Asset Inventory (RAI) program.
