Job Description:

Intertek, a leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification) Services, is looking for an Applications Specialist to join our Transportation Technologies team in Kentwood, MI.

The Transportation Technologies team provides the transportation industry with the confidence that its products and services meet required safety and quality standards. The team’s services cover all aspects of clients’ needs from advisory, auditing, certification and inspection to outsourcing, quality assurance, testing, training and more.

The Applications Specialist is responsible for overseeing the development of the department applications, including technical design, development and maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in a computer related field and at least 1 year of experience.


  • Assist with communication with IT for website, server, or application-related issues.

  • Internal assistance as directed by IT Infrastructure regarding server installations, modifications, FTP, and other items as needed.

  • Maintenance of internal and customer websites utilizing HTML, JavaScript, Visual Basic, and CSS programming.

  • Development and execution of applications and databases related to internal and external customer needs.

  • Troubleshooting, analysis, and resolution of any application, website, or related issues.

  • Consult with clients and other project team members to design, develop, troubleshoot, and manage web based projects.

  • Creating custom reports for internal and external customers as needed.

  • Perform other work as assigned.


  • B.S. in computer related field

  • 1+ years’ experience

  • Programming skills using Visual Basic, SQL Server, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS

  • Knowledge of LAMP Architecture

  • Microsoft Office Suite expertise

  • Proven ability to independently plan, organize, and complete projects within established standards, objectives, and time frames.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal (including via telephone) and written formats

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time

  • Physical dexterity to perform the clerical functions which are inherent to the position, such as data entry via computer keyboard, writing, operating a telephone, and filing
