Responsibilities

This position is located in the Pharmacy Service of the Oscar G. Johnson VAMC, Iron Mountain, MI. This position has an integral role within the pharmacy department with primary responsibilities pertaining to the management and application of VistA, CPRS, automated information systems, and report generation and data integration. Major Tasks Evaluation, enhancement, implementation, and maintenance of current and future versions of pharmacy computer systems. Maintaining current and future versions of pharmacy computer systems to ensure compliance with required standards. Participating in tracers examining BCMA utilization by nursing staff. Serves as a resource to nursing and pharmacy staff when BCMA problems arise. Adding bar codes to the local drug file for new products. Responsible for computer hardware that includes routine maintenance of equipment within the service, conducting surveys of equipment requirements, and determining if replacement is necessary. Utilizes VISTA, SQL, or Pyramid Analytics along with personal computer skills providing reports in specified formats. Actively participate in testing out new software (alpha and beta testing), providing suggestions for enhancements to existing programs and future programs. Utilizes standard office applications and creative skills or specialized experience to transform data into meaningful information as required by administrative, professional, and technical staff and other stakeholders. Actively involved and participate in formulary conversions, cost-savings initiatives and other projects. Provides initial and on-going training to pharmacy employees on various computer system applications, assists pharmacy residents with data mining for their on-going training and project needs, and acts as the primary consultant for additions, deletions, and modifications to the facility's drug file, pharmacy orderable file, and orderable item file. Assists with the automated system user access and assistance in troubleshooting for any automated related equipment issues. Attends, cooperates, and contributes to various management meetings. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.) English Language Proficiency. Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Education. Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Verification of approved degree programs may be obtained from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 20 North Clark Street, Suite 2500, Chicago, Illinois 60602-5109; phone: (312) 664-3575, or through their Web site at: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/. OR Must be a graduate of a foreign pharmacy degree program that meets the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). (DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED) May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must meet the following grade requirements. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-13 LEVEL: You must have at least one (1) year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or equivalent, which is directly related to the position. A Pharmacy Informatics/ADPAC Program Manager must be knowledgeable

and versatile with a multitude of computer applications, such as SharePoint, ProClarity,

Microsoft Business Intelligence etc. Previous pharmacy automation project management experience with implementations, and/or oversight of automated dispensing cabinets, VA applications such as CPRS, BCMA, SharePoint, ProClarity, Microsoft Business Intelligence and development and knowledge of SQL database structures, and write custom queries, analyzing of data for high level review. Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs: Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. Physical Requirements: The work involves prolonged periods of standing with some walking of generally short distances. There may be occasional lifting of weights up to 30 lbs. There may be mental fatigue due to repetitive screening and interpretation of medication orders.
