About the Open Position:
GHSP, a global organization, is currently looking for a Systems Engineer III- Design to join our Headquarters team in Holland, Michigan.
GHSP differentiates itself through the integration of increasingly complex electronic, mechanical, software and aesthetic product components. The Systems Engineer - Design is a technical leader, primary customer technical interface, responsible for supporting the growth and profitability objectives of the company by aligning with customer needs and delivering solutions that require a detailed understanding of the complex intersections of all engineering disciplines required on a product. This must be done in the most simple and elegant manner to ensure all stakeholder needs are met. The Systems Engineer-Design is responsible for ensuring that all of the customer technical requirements are satisfied by the final design and the resulting design meets manufacturability expectations. The role of the Systems Engineer is very broad and touches all aspects of engineering on a particular project.
At GHSP the role of the systems engineer has been divided into four primary areas of responsibility; Requirements, Design, Validation and Safety. Depending on the complexity of assigned programs a Systems Engineer may be asked to support one or more of these areas.
*Essential Job Responsibilities: *
Systems Engineer (Design) Level III
Work requires independent problem solving and decision making with general direction given on project objectives and broad guidance from corporate strategy and goals. Work is complex, difficult in character and requires strong technical and broad business knowledge in addition to program/project management skills. Functioning with full competency/mastery of the system integration of mechanisms with electronic hardware and software, exercises considerable latitude in determining specific project objectives and approaches to assignment. Decisions often involve substantial risk to the organization with potential for long-lasting results. Primarily involves senior/advanced level work and are expected to be able to mentor or supervise other staff, specifically lower level engineers on a project basis.
Provide technical vision and direction towards the integration of multiple engineering disciplines
Ensures the timely, accurate, and successful translation of product requirements into manufacturable product designs. Leads system integration effort between various engineering disciplines. Leads development of system FMEA. Support leadership in identifying and resolving multi-discipline engineering issues.
Serves as the primary customer interface for technical issues on assigned projects.
Responsibility for system level risk assessment using appropriate tools.
Plans, organizes, and directs technical work involving new and existing product design and development.
Leads new order acquisition and engineering change activities by establishing world class and manufacturable product designs that meet all internal and external customer requirements at the lowest cost. Verifies, and is responsible for, successful product development against internal and external standards via engineering analysis, prototyping, FMEA's, benchmarking, and testing. Ensures manufacturability and optimization of product designs through design reviews, things gone wrong reviews, and design for manufacturability reviews. Ensures customer satisfaction by meeting deadlines, managing product changes, while optimizing product cost.
Develops product designs using technical tools in support of program objectives
Verifies success of product design with the use of system simulation tools including CAE, prototyping, design of experiments. and other available engineering analysis tools. Analyzing prototype builds, and ensuring successful completion of design qualification and production validation testing activities.
Specific deliverables to the Product Development team include
Facilitation and Definition of System Architecture (including Trade-off Studies) o Create and Manage the Architecture Change Log o Functional Decomposition of GHSP Specific Architecture
Internal Requirements Definition * System Risk Management o System TRB o System FMEA o Approve System Design Verification Plan * Technical Co-ordination (Mechanical, Hardware, Software, Sub-System Teams and Suppliers) o Integration Trade-off Studies o Problem solving leadership o Coordinate Technical Aspects of Complex Engineering Changes.
Monitors and controls objectives, costs, and timetables of product design and development
Ensures that internal and external design development requirements are met relative to design goals, product cost, and delivery schedules.

An Associate's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, or General Engineering or equivalent.
1-3+ years of experience with integration of electronic and mechanical systems.
1-3+ years of experience with Product Reliability and Optimization.
1-3+ years of experience with Mechatronics and Control Systems.
1-3+ years of experience with Mathematical modeling.
