HarperCollins Publishers Senior Marketing Manager in Grand Rapids, Michigan


The Senior Marketing Manager is responsible for generating significant revenue through the acquisition of new customers, creation of targeted messaging, and production and distribution of digital marketing content and advertising aimed at pastors and church leaders. They will create and leverage messaging, images, and video content to grow ChurchSource’s customer base, and strengthen emotional connections, engagement levels, and marketing initiatives. This person will stay abreast of trends and best practices in email and online marketing and be accountable to test and provide analyses of results. They will speak into digital marketing strategy, fostering a collaborative environment with the marketers and designers on the team and will display a high degree of attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines.


  • New Customer Acquisition

  • Create funnels to attract and engage new customers

  • Build out the entire engagement pathway, including curating lead magnet content and deals, building landing pages, writing email series, and creating upsell pathways

  • Email Marketing

  • Create engaging marketing emails, including writing, design, testing, and scheduling of emails

  • Design and build marketing emails, content newsletters, and conversion funnel email series

  • Test formats, subject lines, content length, CTAs, and other elements of marketing emails to optimize results

  • Monitor and analyze results, making recommendations for promotions, products, and content that will improve results

  • Manage list segmentation and create strategies to identify subscriber segments and offers that will appeal to each segment

  • Blogs and Formsites

  • Design, develop, and maintain the marketing aspects of ChurchSource blogs, including landing pages, lead collection formsites, and content organization

  • Design and build sales funnel landing pages

  • Design all graphics needed for landing pages

  • Create strong calls to action and imbed tracking links and pixels whenever possible

  • Analyze results and provide recommendations on improving engagement and conversions

  • Design

  • Create digital marketing assets (online ads, emails, web ads, header graphics, etc.) for internal and external email lists, blogs, landing pages, paid search, and social media marketing

  • Light video edits and creation of thumbnails, end slides, etc. for video content


Work Experience/Knowledge:

  • 5 – 6 years in a digital marketing or marketing operations

  • Experience building effective customer acquisition funnels required

  • Proficiency with HTML for the purposes of building emails and landing pages required

  • Experience with content-oriented online/social marketing required

  • Proficiency with email and web marketing software like Sailthru and WordPress required

  • Experience in using Google Analytics and other marketing analytics tools required

  • Proficiency with Canva, Photoshop, or other graphic design software required

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite preferred

Education: Bachelor's in marketing, design, or related field

Industry Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the church leadership world, pastor and church leader felt needs and mindset preferred

  • Familiarity with the publishing industry preferred


  • Ability to recognize consumer benefits and curate/edit copy to optimize results

  • Ability to recognize and write strong subject lines

  • Experience managing multiple, competing priorities, duties and/or projects

  • Strong organizational, time management skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to set priorities and work independently under tight deadlines

  • An eye for design required and ability to create graphics
