Eaton Corporation Lead Embedded Software Engineer in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Eaton’s Vehicle division is seeking an Lead Embedded Software Engineer to join our team. The position will be based at our Galesburg, MI; Southfield, MI; or Grand Rapids, MI facility.
The Lead Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for supporting the research and investigation of new software solutions for Industrial Sector embedded products

You will support, manage and plan projects including new product software and existing product redesign as well as, leveraging knowledge across the COE organization and the broader industry.
You will architect and design new software solutions from beginning to end at all life cycle stages.
You will guide external partners and internal engineering resources on the integration work between ECU device drivers, controls model interface points, service tool drivers and other intelligent embedded systems.
You will build and maintain relationships with the controls engineering organization, internal and external service tool providers and other functional groups.
You will obtain and communicate the needs of plants, OEMs, end users and other functional groups to ensure voice of customer is satisfied in the embedded software design and testing.
You will conduct software defect root-cause analysis, implement and validate corrective actions.
You will interface and coordinate with hardware and controls engineers to perform tests on simulation, software, hardware, and systems platforms to validate proper system performance.
You will direct and aid in the professional development of other engineers and engineering partners to achieve department goals.
You will demonstrate new or re-designed products to plants, OEM’s, end users, and other functional groups.
You will assist engineering manager with technology, equipment selection and project planning.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Software Engineering, or Mechatronics from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 5 years of experience embedded software development using C Language
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Software Engineering, or Mechatronics.
Experience modeling software architecture in terms of components and interfaces with particular emphasis on code re-usability and maintainability.
Experience with various software development methodologies and tools (agile, iterative, waterfall, etc.).
Experience with processes and tools for requirements management, change and configuration management.
Experience with software test methodologies and tools and development of test plans for embedded systems.
Experience integrating and validating performance of electro-mechanical systems.
Position Success Criteria:
Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
Excellent verbal and written communication in English with ability to clearly convey project status and timelines to senior executives.
Knowledge of functional safety and development processes compliant to safety standards (ex. ISO 26262, IEC 61508).
Knowledge of MatLAB/Simulink for algorithm definition and software engineering.
Knowledge of data security and encryption methods.
