Job Description


The Human Resources Information System (HRIS) Specialist functions as an integral part of the HR team working with all aspects of the HRIS and/or HR associated systems. Specialist is a technical point-of-contact/subject matter expert with HRIS abilities, ensuring data integrity, testing of system changes, report writing and analyzing data flows for process improvement opportunities/projects. Specialist takes initiative to make recommendations for continuous system improvements and leads the implementation/management of system projects. Performs standard configuration and testing on assigned modules, perform configuration audits, and provide the proper guidance on best practices related to the usage of the application. The specialist will be responsible for identifying root causes of system issues, as well as recommending and applying solutions as necessary. The specialist will create complex queries and reports using the HRIS.


Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B. S.) from four-year college or university; and 3 years minimum HRIS dedicated specialist and/or analyst experience including HR Information Systems management/processing required. In-depth understanding of HRIS capabilities and solving of multiple problems independently required. High-level analytical and organizational skills and the ability to analyze complex information structures involving multiple layers of data and workflows required. Experience working with Ultimate Software, including the ability to create sophisticated queries, is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Serve as a technical and functional end-user support for Human Resource department and users as it relates to system improvements, utilization, functions, reporting, analysis, data conversion, potential new systems, interfaces, etc...

  2. Manage ongoing processes and programs, implement new projects, and propose areas for improvement for the company-s Recruiting, Performance Management, Succession Planning, Career Development, etc- while continuously seeking ways to improve existing processes and programs through the use of technology.

  3. Partner with and assist in decisions related to the ongoing development, implementation and maintenance of Human Resource system applications. This includes the implementation of any HR Systems, expanding the utilization of functional modules within our HRIS, performance management, recruiting, etc-.

  4. Lead the testing, training and documentation of the HRIS system including configuration setup, security administration and report writing.

  5. Work effectively with IT developers and various business users to translate requests into detailed requirements

  6. Proactively recommend/implement new approaches, processes, policies and procedures to maintain continuous improvements in efficiencies in HR department and services provided to organization in relation to HRIS.

  7. Operate as key partner and consultant to HR, Payroll, Finance, IT, Management, etc- for system administration and functionality in order to support and optimize applicable processes.

  8. Manage business requests end to end; including prioritization, requirements gathering, functional specification documentation, system testing and end user needs to ensure a fully functioning HRIS in connection to organizations initiatives.

  9. Serve as subject matter expert and escalation point on system administration and functionality.

  10. Develop, maintain and provide advanced suggestions in relations to HRIS BI reports, data, graphing, presentations and identify organizational BI needs in connection to the organizations initiatives.

  11. Develop and maintain system administration and end user guides and other system related training materials as needed.

  12. Provide exceptional customer service.

  13. Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft products and HRIS.
