What You'll Do Here:
Do you want to enable the discovery of and access to valuable content and resources that can change lives? The Product Manager – Open Web/Discovery is responsible for connecting learners to libraries by supporting the development and management of product- and content-focused initiatives at Gale that increase the discovery, use, and value of Gale offerings across all markets. This includes concept work, supporting investment cases, and working in an Agile development environment to advance projects that communicate and demonstrate the value of Gale products and content to the organization, its customers, and ultimately, end-users. This position works closely with external partners, strategists, and content and software developers to define specifications and ensure quality throughout the development cycle. The ideal candidate welcomes and contributes fresh ideas and has a passion for helping libraries be successful. Accountability for Gale revenue plan and growth targets.
Conceptualize and implement innovative approaches to the discovery of Gale resources that ensure seamless access to Gale content throughout the user workflow, and use data to measure results and communicate the value of this discovery to both internal and external stakeholders.
Contribute to open web strategy development and thought leadership. Build, maintain, and execute upon key initiative roadmaps.
Develop and define specifications (information architecture, user interface, features, tools, and content) in a platform-centric fashion so that components can be leveraged across multiple product families.
Work with Director, Product Management, as well as external partners, software developers, strategists, content engineers, publisher relations, marketing, and other departments to ideate, develop, test, and iterate new offerings or refinements to existing capabilities.
Fulfill the role of Product Owner in regular standup meetings, iteration planning and iteration reviews during active software development projects. Prioritize support issues, bugs, and enhancement requests.
Stay abreast of industry trends and devise ongoing product improvements and monitor and mine product analytics such as usage metrics, Google Analytics, satisfaction data, customer feedback, competitive analysis, and market research.
Support the Sales Department by conducting in-person and online product training sessions for inside and field reps and by conducting customer webinars. As necessary, accompany sales reps and represent Gale at trade shows and conferences.
Other responsibilities may include market research, developing product investment cases, P&L development and responsibility, pricing, tracking performance metrics, tracking competition, identifying new opportunities, conceptualizing and testing new ideas, recruiting and managing advisory boards.
Other duties as assigned to meet business objectives.
Skills You Will Need Here:
Bachelor’s degree or extensive experience in a related field.
At least two years of progressive experience in product management, publishing, the library or information industry, data analysis, education technology, sales, marketing, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Experience with open web discovery of paywalled or restricted content, or experience bringing public-facing content and data products to market.
Familiarity with search engine optimization and structured data.
Demonstrated market knowledge and customer/end-user focus.
Proven ability to participate effectively and influence cross-functional teams without formal authority—including the management of external partnerships.
Basic financial and budgeting skills to manage budgets and develop investment cases as input into product decisions.
Demonstrated ability to quickly master new skills.
Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as diplomacy in order articulate relevant information to both technical and non-technical audiences and senior leadership.
Working knowledge of standard company software (MS Office, etc.).
Familiarity with library database authentication and access methods and usage standards such as COUNTER and SUSHI.
Experience defining product specifications and working with software development teams.
