H.W. Kaufman Group Organizational Change Manager in Farmington Hills, Michigan

The organizational change manager is a multifaceted role that interfaces with various stakeholders, enterprise-wide. Incumbents are responsible for embedding organizational change management (OCM) practices into the organization’s operations to achieve the desired business outcomes.

This role is responsible for leading, directing, coordinating and providing visibility into the organization’s change management efforts. The role creates change management strategies and develops change workstreams that maximize employees’ change readiness and adoption of those strategies.

Although the OCM role works closely with project managers and the project team, it is a separate position and has distinct responsibilities. The OCM role is focused on the activities required to help individual stakeholders understand, adjust to, and adopt new practices, items, processes or tools that a project is implementing.

  • Promote the business vision with a benefit framework that links adoption of change to successful business outcomes

  • Prepare for change by assessing the magnitude of change and the organization’s change readiness

  • Employ a structured change management methodology to facilitate change and promote commitment to adapt to the change; tailor this methodology to be culturally appropriate for the enterprise and program

  • Identify pitfalls and potential points of challenge or change aversion, and develop counterstrategies to mitigate or minimize potential issues

  • Create communications strategies and plans to ensure all employees are fully aware of impending changes

  • Perform quantitative assessments of change success and adoption, and solicit feedback from stakeholders to determine the success of change management activities; ensure that behavioral changes align with strategic objectives

  • Work with HR to create mechanisms to de-emphasize old behaviors and encourage new desired ones, which may involve redesigning jobs and defining new behavioral competencies and performance metrics

  • Educate executives and the organization about OCM

  • Promote and provide ongoing coaching and mentoring about change management practices to senior leadership, stakeholder managers and project managers to increase their effectiveness in driving sustainable change

  • Conduct thorough methodological investigations to identify key stakeholders impacted by a change, and help determine appropriate timing of the change

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, business administration, or equivalent work experience

  • Organizational development training, change management training and/or certification are highly desirable

  • 3 or more years of experience in cross-functional areas or leading cross-functional projects

  • Track record of successful organizational change experience, with goals to achieve and identify strategic business objectives and benefits

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse teams

  • Experience with and deep knowledge of change management methodologies, approaches and tools

  • Good working knowledge of industry-standard project management methodologies and project life cycles

  • Financial knowledge to ensure that organizational change efforts are aligned with the financial perspective of the desired business benefits
