h3Position Summary/h3 The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University is approaching completion and commencement of user operation in early 2022.and#160; The FRIB high-power superconducting linear accelerator has already been demonstrated to accelerate ion beams to the design energy of 200 MeV/u to produce rare isotopes. FRIB is poised to be the worldand#8217;s most powerful rare isotope beam facility, with unprecedented opportunities to study the vast unexplored potential of more than 1,000 new rare isotopes never before produced on Earth. FRIB includes a target facility for the in-flight production of rare isotopes. An Advanced Rare Isotope Separator (ARIS) will prepare fast rare isotope beams with high-purity for nuclear physics experiments. We invite Ph.D. graduates to apply for this Research Associate position and join the FRIB Accelerator Physics Department. The Research Associate will contribute to the commissioning, development, and operation of the FRIB by undertaking projects and activities to improve facility performance as measured by beam quality, intensity, power, purity, and variety. h2span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt"Position duties can be adjusted according to the candidateand#8217;s experience, interests, and talents, but will cover at least three of the following areas/span/h2 type="disc" liDevelopment of ARIS settings for efficient separation and purification of rare isotopes/li liDevelopment of parallel simulation and optimization codes for production, separation, and transport of rare isotope beams/li liDevelopment, implementation, and maintenance of high-level physics applications/li liDevelopment and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to improve the efficiency of the accelerator and/or secondary beam transport devices/li /ul and#160; Supports the Accelerator Physics Department within the FRIB Accelerator Systems Division. Major position responsibilities are the advancement of fragment separator beam physics including: style="list-style-type: disc" liAdvance the understanding of ARIS fragment separator beam physics for efficient tuning and operation of secondary beamlines/li liPhysics of interaction of ion beams with the target and wedges/li liDevelop and support parallel simulation and optimization codes for production, separation and transport of rare isotope beams/li liContribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of high level physics applications/li liExecute work to meet project milestones and performance objectives (cost, scope and schedule)/li liPlan to perform their work in a safe manner/li liPerform work with quality/li liExecute the completion of systems and progressive science and technology/li liComplete work to achieve milestones and goals/li liMotivate employees to build a success-oriented culture/li liFollow lab-wide policies, procedures and standards/li liDeliver assigned project work package requirements/li liManage resource and equipment allocation for projects and/or systems/li liExecute work to meet project objectives/li /ul h3Required Degree/h3 Doctorate -Physics h3Minimum Requirements/h3 style="list-style-type: disc" liPhD in physics, electrical or computer engineering/li liKnowledge of major programming languages (C++, Python)/li liGood communication skills/li liSelf-motivated and able to work well within a team/li liAbility to work with export-controlled technology/li /ul h3Desired Qualificationslt
