h3Position Summary/h3 The successful candidate will provide research support to faculty, researchers and students for three units at six locations as follows: Install and maintain research work stations and instrumentation, including management of controllers and interfaces for research instruments such as EDMs, lathes, optical microscopes, imagers, NAS, lasers, oscilloscopes, vacuum pumps, scanning electron microscopes, spectrographs, remote telescopes, ELISA microplate readers, gel imaging systems, and Thermo Fisher Smart Vue freezer monitor systems ; Write management and communication scripts using Bash, Python, Perl and PostScript ; Install and maintain research database servers ; Work with vendors and manufacturers to repair or upgrade devices; Work with the Physics-Astronomy Machine Shop, the SOAR research group, the MSU Observatory, and Abrams Planetarium to maintain equipment ; Appropriately handle all sensitive and restricted research data. The candidate will assist the departmental network administrator as follows: Manage DNS and IPs for three units ; Test, trouble-shoot, and configure wired and wireless network devices and network problems ; Coordinate network upgrades and repairs. The candidate will assist the departmental security officer for three units as follows: Obtain and test custom SEP installers for Windows, Linux, and MacOS; Install, configure and manage MSU''s baseline security applications on departmental network devices. The candidate will maintain the departmental website using MURA, assist with departmental and research IIS and Apache web servers, assist faculty and researchers with research web page spaces. The candidate will work with teaching faculty and lab managers to add new experiments used in Physics-Astronomy undergraduate teaching laboratories using LabView and Deep Freeze Enterprise clients. This candidate will work with the IT team to provide helpdesk support to all personnel and all devices in three units, including installation and repair of desktop computers, laptops, tablets, printers, and copiers. The candidate will be supporting Ubuntu, CentOS, Scientific Linux, Free BSD, Red Hat, Windows Server, Windows desktop OS, MacOS. The candidate will assist with maintenance of MS AD domain controllers, file servers, print servers, database servers, web servers, mail servers and backup servers. h3Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills/h3 Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational or business school such as an Associates Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed OR a Bachelors Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. h3Desired Qualifications/h3 Two or more years of experience with research computing including management of controllers and interfaces for instruments such as EDMs, lathes, optical microscopes, imagers, NAS, lasers, oscilloscopes, vacuum pumps, scanning electron microscopes, spectrographs, remote telescopes, ELISA microplate readers, gel imaging systems, and Thermo Fisher Smart Vue freezer monitor systems.
