POSITION TITLE:? Youth Career Pathways, Technical Instructor - Remote/DetroitF/T Contract (Immediate)
REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Career Pathways
Per Scholas is a workforce development nonprofit that provides rigorous and tuition-free technical training and onramps to careers in Information Technology (IT). We offer an innovative approach to help young people design their future career pathways -- simulated tech work-based learning. High school students will gain work-related skills and learn to perform simulated technology tasks aligned to entry-level IT positions, as they navigate their postsecondary training pathways.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
This individual will partner with high schools to build access to infrastructure technology education, exposing high school students to careers with impressive growth potential. To learn more about the initiative, visit TCEP - Technology Career Exploration Program.
WHAT YOU?LL DO:
Facilitate remote course that provides high school students with an introduction to IT concepts, including but not limited to:
Desktop operating systems, including Windows and Mac OS
Troubleshooting hardware and software problems
Microsoft Office suite
Basic computer hardware
Tutor students who are preparing for the CompTIA IT Fundamentals Plus certification examination
Administrative responsibilities relating to course implementation, especially in a remote setting
Use full G-Suite to communicate, present, and organize information with high school teachers and other partners
WHAT YOU?LL BRING TO US:
Certifications related to training course - CompTIA A+ required, Net+ preferred
Knowledgeable on IT functions and tools, described above
Expert use of G-Suite and Microsoft functions and operations
Experience working with high school youth
Detroit Resident (remote currently due to COVID 19)
Passion for working with youth and community members
Passion for the mission of Per Scholas
Passion for teaching others
Desire to learn independently and quickly
Highly responsive communicator
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Flexibility to adapt to changes in schedule
Interest in being part of a start-up culture of growth and continuous improvement
Ability to thrive in remote work environments, including time management and balancing multiple projects
