Technical Writer, Training
Formulate documentation processes that may include reviews and approvals by management for all technical systems within the company. After consultation, research and review, documents process materials that include reports, manuals, specifications, presentation materials and other technical documents in a detailed and concise manner. Establish process that keeps data current for reference purposes. Interprets information obtained through research and provided by technical experts. Applies knowledge of documentation and incorporates information into various mediums such as manuals, flow charts and web-based sites.
Essential Job Functions
Produce high quality end-user documentation and procedures for a technical or non-technical audience. Work on all phases of information development from information gathering, research, and interviewing, to writing and editing. Coordinate project flow from concept to completion, meeting all required deadlines.
Interview technical experts to understand process components, technology and anticipated outcomes. Work with various levels throughout the company to understand technical processes.
Observe production, study blueprints or sketches and analyze model or samples or investigate operating and production procedures
Produce paper and electronic versions of process documentation using a variety of mediums, including flow charts, process mapping, etc.
Establish and maintain database of process documentation.
Research and analyze process to identify and resolve bottlenecks or barriers the affect process outcomes. Proactively ask questions in the interest of learning what is relevant to the process documentation.
Participate in cross-functional teams to documents new proposed processes. Cross-trains with other departments on functional processes.
Identify training opportunities resulting from new processes and applications.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or technical communication. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Strong comprehension skills coupled with the ability to detail sourced information in a written or electronic format.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a technical writing position with evidence of ability to produce process documentation in an end-user friendly format.
Proficient with Microsoft applications that include PowerPoint, Visio and Web.
Demonstrated ability to read and understand a variety of technical documents and translate and compose technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and nontechnical end-users.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research and insure proper technical terminology in final product.
Demonstrated organizational and planning skills and evidence of project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively.
Ability to travel and adhere to corporate travel policies.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Experience in Information Systems environment or another technical environment.
Closed office working conditions. Little or no distracting elements.
This position may require travel.
Limited or intermittent visual/auditory attention, or limited lifting, standing or moving of lightweight material.
