What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
You will be a part of the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid leadership team, helping ensure and implement security practices into VMware’s Kubernetes distribution. As a Staff engineer in the program, you will work both on the downstream product and contribute to the upstream Kubernetes project.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Reinforce a secure by default expectation for the platform through consulting and code contributions
Analyze and respond to CVEs in both upstream community and downstream product
Get approval for features with internal security teams
Create test suites that ensure a more secure and relevant product for Enterprises
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Collaborates with Kubernetes and Cloud Native Ecosystem projects and community security groups on vulnerability investigation, evaluation of threat models, and responses
Validates and ensures resolution to upstream and downstream vulnerabilities and incidents
Participates in TKG development lifecyle and provides guidance for architecture and configuration balancing business requirements with enterprise technology standards
Coordinates with internal security teams on threat assessments during feature development
Leads the development of TKG security standards with product management team and contributes tests to ensure compliance in development lifecycle
Partners with product management teams to help prioritize work internally and across across organizational boundaries
Support product compliance efforts around FIPS, CIS Benchmarks and others

The hiring manager for this role is Clint Kitson, R&D Director. Clint has been in the cloud native eco-system for 5+ years and helped build, coordinate, and grow VMware’s Kubernetes contributor and product teams. Clint’s team is responsible for delivering TKG and building teams that innovate with global communities to further the production readiness of Kubernetes.
