POSITION OVERVIEW

The Software Analytics Specialist will leverage great analytics and software development knowledge to develop analytical solutions to unique and challenging business problems. This role is responsible for software design, implementation, and testing as it pertains to the needs of the Urban Science Architecture and Analytics teams. This includes working on a variety of projects as needed.

  • Provide Architectural support for the Urban Science Analytics team including:

  • Assist in the design, development and support of the analytical data sandbox.

  • Assist Architecture and Analytics teams with the building of prototype systems that create and embed new analytical models such as regression models into live systems.

  • Lead development of new data visualizations to display information effectively. This includes visualizations for ad-hoc analysis, presentations, and software solutions.

  • Work with the Analytics team to automate processes for generated reports.

  • Provide assistance with general analytics troubleshooting and support.

  • Research and implementation of machine learning and other intelligent systems techniques to facilitate repeatable and expedited data analysis.

  • Evaluation and exploratory data mining of industry wide data collections.

  • Consult with clients and internal teams on data related issues and provide potential solutions or insights.

  • Lead prototyping development of pilot analytical software solutions.

  • Assist in innovation of our software and visualization capabilities through:

  • Research and development of alternative user interfaces and controls such as mobile software.

  • Development and refinement of data visualization approaches within our software solutions.

  • Lead presentations on advanced analytics topics to increase knowledge throughout the company.

  • Attend project meetings and participate in presenting project status updates and research findings to Architecture, Analytics, Database Administration, and Application Development teams to clearly communicate project status, conclusions and results.

  • Works with manager in completing own annual goal setting and performance review in a timely manner.

  • Works with manager to prioritize other duties as assigned.

  • Technical: Requires advanced knowledge of:

  • Analytical modeling including regression models, classification models, and unsupervised data exploration techniques.

  • Software engineering, development, and testing methodologies such as: object-oriented design, dependency injection, unit testing, tiered software design, and service-based architecture.

  • SQL Server and relational database concepts, which require gathering and manipulating data manually.

  • Non-relational database concepts including design and usage

  • Data definition languages, data manipulation languages and the principles of database design.

  • Exposure and experience with a wide variety of programming languages such as: C#, HTML, XML/JSON, .NET Architecture, JavaScript, CSS, Mobile Development, R, and Python.

  • Strong willingness to learn new technologies and possibly merge together many different technologies into a single solution.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • University degree required in an appropriate IT field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems from an accredited U.S. college or university, equivalent foreign institution, or equivalent experience; Masters or advanced degree preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with software development, testing, and data analytics methodologies.
