Business Consulting Manager

The Business Consulting Manager is a professional with strong industry and subject matter experience and a record of professional and academic achievement. You must be capable, and comfortable, of working and communicating with all levels of an organization, from the line-level to the executive suite. You may occasionally work on an independent basis, but shouldalso be capableof working with and leading teams by providing relevant knowledge and direction whether as a direct team participant or as a mentor. Your work may also include leading multiple project work streams, small engagement teams or components of larger, more complex engagements. You will work side-by-side with company leadership and other consultants at all levels, with targeted exposure to executives. As a member of the Continuous Improvement department, you will display the capacity and desire for professionalcontinuous improvement and growth. This position also requires the ability to deal with uncertainty in a changing environment, often with little or no direction. Leveraging a hypothesis-driven approach and detailed analysis, you will derive solutions that will be captured within an effective storyline. Problem and conflict resolution skills are essential, as is negotiation ability.

As a Business Consulting Manager, your responsibilities will include managing deliverables, developing meaningful insights from quantitative and qualitative analyses, setting engagement objectives and scope, developing work plans and coordinating activities across project teams when applicable. You will formulate both tactical and strategic recommendations for business improvement. The projects that you work on will be complex, cross-functional engagements with a variety of possible outcomes to be evaluated for effectiveness. The subject matter of projects can be very broad, from those that require in-depth data analysis, to those that address corporate structure, direction or policy. Examples include: process cost identification, future-state design, organizational re-structuring, administrative cost reduction, and process efficiency. You will also be responsible for guiding and participating in the development and delivery of succinct and insightful presentations to company leadership and executives. The opportunity to interact with company leadership and executives will provide you with greater insight into company challenges and opportunities as well as in the larger health care and insurance industry.

Responsible for independently leading the delivery of consultative services to executive leadership on a broad range of strategic, organizational, and operations effectiveness issues resulting in significant improvements, regulatory compliance, and positive financial outcomes to organizational processes.

  • Provide expert project management and support to consulting teams for large-scale projects, to ensure successful delivery of improvements and post-project value realization.

  • Ensure consulting teams are documenting transactional processes with boundaries, key steps, inputs, outputs, information technology systems, and other relevant information to facilitate process improvement discussions with executive leaders.

  • Responsible for monitoring and assessing emerging and existing technology developments (e.g., robotics, artificial intelligence, analytics, natural language processing, lean methods) to assess applicability across company for core business process, efficiency, capability, and performance improvements.

  • Responsible for analyzing processes to identify inefficiencies, capability gaps across people, process, technology, and management infrastructure.

  • Responsible for analyzing root causes of inefficiencies and gaps preventing ideal business delivery performance and for assisting in identifying business requirements for process automation or system enhancements.

  • Responsible for leading the development of meaningful insights from quantitative and qualitative analyses and summarizing the ‘call to action’ for consideration by executive leadership through presentations that tell a story focused on insights, not just data, and communicate findings to executives and other leaders to drive action for business performance.

  • Ensure consulting teams are defining processes, cost and performance key performance indicators, industry benchmarks, and voice of customer data that lead to identification of continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Responsible for designing and developing dashboards that lead to actionable business insights for process and performance improvements for review with executive leaders.

  • Assist with building team capabilities through informal leadership of Consultants and Associate Consultants.

  • Work with business teams and executives to develop plans to address opportunities, analyze projected improvements in cost and performance; facilitate, coordinate, and lead solution design activities.

  • Support Information Technology and business to implement effective and low-cost solutions; support business teams in development of business cases.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business, Computer Science or related field required.

  • Seven years of experience in business unit consulting with emphasis on business management, process improvement, automation, and strategic planning required.

  • Three years of experience performing or overseeing large departmental or cross-functional project teams required.

  • Expert-level proficiency in several continuous improvement tools, such as value stream mapping, process FMEA, and five whys.

  • Understand continuous improvement terminology, tools, and processes.

  • Proficient in defining problems, setting engagement objectives and scope.

  • Experience in financial acumen and systems thinking.

  • Ability to summarize quantitative and qualitative analyses and draw actionable insights.

  • Ability to deliver succinct and insightful presentations to executive leadership.

  • Knowledge of project management concepts, tools, and practices.

  • Workshop organization, planning, and facilitation skills. Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, statistical analysis and related tools.

  • Knowledge of BCBSM products, processes, company structure, financial data structures, technology systems, organization, staff, performance targets, customer requirements, project funding and delivery, value management practices, and decision-making processes.

  • Knowledge of Business Efficiency and Continuous Improvement Unit tool set, 16-step methodology, and practices to gain support from business to implement solutions.
