Virtual Validation and Verification Engineer

Job Description & Qualifications:

Candidates for consideration will be focused on exploring virtual validation and verification (V&V) techniques, tools and methods to apply to active research and advanced projects in areas of driver assist technologies, electrification and robotics. The engineer will work with a team of other engineers during this development and application, as well as mentoring engineers outside our immediate team to grow adoption of developed methods and tools. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are needed to successfully propagate virtual validation and verification and create a culture where each engineer owns a portion of verifying controls and systems work.

• Leverage a model based approach to architecting, defining, and analyzing complex systems involving a mix of hardware and controls for electrified vehicle powertrains, robotics and driver assist technologies

• Write test plans and perform unit and system design verification in a simulation environment, analyze results and drive necessary changes for a robust design

• Help push the state-of-the-art in embedded continuous integration and testing

• Refine the definition of thorough, coordinated and efficient virtual verification, guiding engineers to identify a “definition of done” for the V&V community

• Perform competitive analyses and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in the automotive field, especially in the areas of virtual validation and verification

• Collaborate with the plant modeling team to accelerate availability and effectiveness of virtual testing

• Collaborate with the Ford Central Software V&V team to research and roll out process, methods and tools associated with virtual validation and verification

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Automotive / Computer Engineering

  • 1+ year of Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow. This may include academic experience

  • 1+ years of (combined) experience in a role involved in requirements definition, controls design, design verification & validation. (coursework allowed)

  • 1+ year of experience Programming background (Python, C, C++ or Matlab m-script)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD. degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Automotive / Computer Engineering or Controls related field

  • 3 to 5+ years (combined) experience in automotive controls or systems engineering

  • Experience in controls in electrified vehicle systems, driver assist technologies or robotics

  • Experience in requirements definition, decomposition, design verification

  • Experience with hands-on testing and problem solving in simulation, hardware in the loop systems, and prototype vehiclesBroad understanding of control system design and analysis techniques

  • Significant experience with Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow

  • Significant experience utilizing models to develop and verify mixed hardware & embedded software systems desired

  • Experience with CAN networks and tools (CANalyzer, CANape, etc.)

  • Experience with ATI Vision for data collection, analysis and calibration

  • Experience with virtual testing tools

  • Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

  • Initiative, resilience, a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous learning

  • Strong technical analysis skills and the ability to create new solutions

  • Preferred experience in physical and empirical based model building

  • Must be skilled working in large team environments and interfacing with technical experts
