Job Title:

Research Engineer – IVI/Connectivity Software

Job Description & Qualifications:

We are seeking a motivated and creative individual to join Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering team; someone who is interested in the field of mobility research to help build, champion and deliver smarter vehicles for a smart world. These future vehicles will need a wide range of computing capabilities in areas such as connectivity, machine learning, sensor processing and image processing.


  • Responsible for delivering innovative software to facilitate the integration and development of an in-vehicle research platform

  • Have flexibility and the ability to tackle problems independently, while collaborating with a functionally diverse team

  • Responsible for writing and developing code

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science

  • 5+ years of experience with Object Oriented Programming using C++/Java

  • 4+ years of experience with embedded software development

  • 3+ years of experience developing applications or services (any of Java, native, web, webassembly, Qt)

  • 2+ years of experience with Agile software development, reviewing code and/or Continuous Integration (CI)

  • 1+ year of experience developing or customizing the Android kernel – AOSP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Experience with Android communication (binder, shared memory, system notifications, etc)

  • Experience with end-to-end cloud interaction (gRPC, REST APIs, maintaining state, etc)

  • Experience developing with Qt

  • Experience integrating or fusing sensor data (GPS, IMU, Bluetooth, WiFi, Camera)

  • Experience developing with 3rd party IVI SDKs or engines (Nav, Voice, Media, etc.)

  • A genuine and proven interest in technology, electronics, gadgets and programming, both on a professional and personal level
