Enhanced Gateway & Connectivity Core Engineer – Early Applications
Job Description & Qualifications:
The Enhanced Central Gateway Core team is part of Ford's In Vehicle Infotainment and Connectivity organization and is responsible for the development and integration of an all new electronic control module which serves as a network gateway and delivers new and advanced connected vehicle features and functions.
The core engineer responsible for early applications would work with vehicle programs during early phases of development to manage cost, packaging, and other program deliverables during those early milestones. The engineer would hand off each program to the Applications organization at a specific program gateway prior to launch. The engineer would also support feature planning activities, including support of planning forums and early feature development resource assessments.
Lead overall application engineering of the Enhanced Central Gateway (ECG) module during early vehicle program milestones.
Manage program assumptions, cost, packaging, sourcing, and other program related activities in the early stages of the program.
Work with program teams to identify the best package location and mounting method for ECG as early as possible.
Ensure smooth and successful hand-off of each program from Core to Applications, and provide support to Applications team after the transition.
Lead releasing activities for ECG core hardware/software.
Work with Planning, Connected Vehicles & Services, Program Teams, and hardware/software development teams to assess new feature requests and quantify resource needs to support those features.
Support feature prioritization for ECG.
Support financial unit milestone deliverables.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer Engineering, Mechanical with Electronic background)
3+ years of design and release experience in an electrical discipline
3+ years of demonstrated project management experience in an automotive setting
5+ years of design and release experience in an electrical discipline
Demonstrated experience in the Infotainment and/or Telematics areas
Experience with CAN networking and a strong understanding of automotive electrical architectures.
Experience with Bill of Material management, Part Releasing, Device Transmittal development, and Cost process management.
Experience in managing a tier 1 supplier or 3rd party purchased service provider.
Experience packaging electronic modules in vehicle.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and with cross functional global teams
Working knowledge of Agile software development processes (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, etc.)
Independent worker and capable of delivering multiple project commitments concurrently
Broad interpersonal skills allowing a wide range of interface with vehicle product development / subsystem engineers and cross-functional teams (planning, marketing, IT, etc.) and suppliers
Experience with automotive feature development and test.
