Communications play a critical role in Human-Centered Design. Our mission and our purpose are inseparable from the way we work—for us to be successful, we need to tell compelling stories to both Ford and to the rest of the world. Whether it’s crafting a well-thought out Medium post, responding to some newly launched service with a timely tweet, or just reinforcing our mission to guests and interested parties, our Communications Lead will be the common voice and carry the brand into the world.

As a Communication Design Lead you will...

  • Lead the Lab team to develop visual and verbal content to effectively communicate D-Ford’sstories, goals and achievements to both an internal and external audience

  • Develop a communication strategy and cadence for internal and external communications channels

  • Work with leadership and project teams to develop key narratives that elevate our brand andthought leadership

  • Design and produce assets, artifacts, and tools that support our Lab Communications, internallyand externally

  • Plan and manage the cadence of communication; generate, edit, publish and share engagingcontent that is in sync with the plan

  • Collaborate with teams to bring our voices, stories, and concepts to life

  • Lead the design and distribution effort of Lab Communications artifacts, including, but not limited to,our bi-weekly newsletter publication for internal stakeholders

  • Work with multidisciplinary project teams made up of designers, engineers, brand and businessstrategists, and others

  • Collaborate with our community to help build and maintain internal and external communicationschannels

  • Work with Ford Communications, marketing and PR to make sure our brand and voice are singingin tune with the Ford chorus

  • Act as a main point of contact for Ford Communications and brand conversations

  • Work with leadership to build and execute event and speaking strategy

  • Support the design and production of events through visual branding, experience design,artifacts, and written communication

  • Design cultural artifacts and communication assets that enable internal initiatives from the designof our physical space to talent and onboarding

  • Contribute to multiple, distinct projects fluidly and seamlessly

  • Communicate our offerings using a clear, direct, relatable brand voice

  • Support the preparation and production of project presentations and community presentations

  • Strengthen and create strategy for the lab’s social media presence on platforms including, butnot limited to, Twitter, Medium, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn

  • Monitor D-Ford’s social media accounts and offer constructive interaction with users

  • Analyze the long-term needs of D-Ford’s social media strategy and offer monthly reports toleadership, outlining any necessary changes to the digital strategy

  • Experiment with new tools, processes, methods, and approaches to production andcommunication design

  • Collaborate with external partners/contractors as needed

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR, or New Media

OR

  • High School Diploma or GED and 8+ years’ experience in Communications, PR, or New Media

  • 2+ years’ of leading highly collaborative design teams in Communications, PR, or New Media

Our preferred qualifications:

  • Passionate about automotive and transportation industry

  • Experience of working in a variety of organizations (startup, corporate, agency)

  • Extensive experience across a variety of media (print, motion, web) including fluency in the following software: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Sketch, Keynote, Microsoft Office. Experience with Adobe Premier Pro, video editing and motion graphics.

  • Experience of designing and/or facilitating group collaboration workshops

  • Experience of using design thinking principles or methods in a formal, in-person setting

  • Passion for design and detail; strong verbal, written, and visual skills. Comfortable communicatingand advocating for design solutions to a broad audience Experience of working in a variety of organizations (startup, corporate, agency)

  • Self-directed and self-motivated; ability to see the big picture, and at the same time be detail-oriented and delivery-focused

  • Ability to balance speed vs. perfection in an ambiguous, fast-paced, scrappy environment

  • Ability to take a project from ideation to completion. Attention to detail, with an eye for consistency

  • Strategic approach and the ability to explain the rationale behind your design

  • Passion for leveraging design to effect large-scale societal change

  • Understands website metrics, SEO and social media best practices
