Cybersecurity Research Engineer
Job Description & Qualifications:
Ford Vehicle and Mobility Cybersecurity is seeking professionals with a strong interest in understanding and resolving technical challenges in the automotive cybersecurity domain. The cybersecurity research team focuses on applied research into emerging and ubiquitous vehicle connectivity technologies, from component-level aspects through system and software implementation and communication protocols. Qualified individuals will have a strong aptitude to formulate open questions; devise creative solutions; deliver concise, rigorous prototype implementations, and clearly articulate in discussions, presentations, and research reports.
Lead technology and security research projects; deliver to internal customers
Research and develop concepts and solutions to address cybersecurity incidents reported by industry and research organizations
Participate in engineering projects to identify threats and vulnerabilities in our infrastructure, software and system architectures
Create storyboards, use cases, proof-of-concept demonstrations, specifications and requirements
Conduct Threat Analysis and Risk Assessments
Actively ideate and invent new security techniques or countermeasures for vehicle products
Perform competitive analyses and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in the automotive and consumer electronics domains
Actively work with security Partners, Industry, University, and Governmental organizations for information sharing, joint project development, collaboration, and reporting
Research and develop threat intelligence briefings that are pertinent to our industry, company, and products
Minimal travel expected to attend cybersecurity conferences or meet with remote team members
Basic Qualifications :
3+ years’ experience in embedded software, systems engineering, or automotive cybersecurity
3+ years of experience in the following areas:
Embedded hardware security (Hardware trust anchor / HSM)
Software security feature implementation (secure firewall, gateway, network isolation & secure updates)
Automotive networking (CAN, LIN & Ethernet), automotive connectivity (cellular, satellite, Bluetooth) protocols, security, over the air updates and vehicle architectures, variations across multiple OEMs
Programming experience with one of the following tools: (C/C++/C#/Python/Java)
MS/PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
Good written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills
Comfort with rapid prototyping and disciplined software development processes
Ability to work independently, and take follow-up actions on research deliverables
Strong expertise in Threat Assessment and Remediation Analysis (TARA) experience
Familiarity with Mobile phone application programming, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and networking protocols
PKI experience on medium to large deployments
