Job Purpose

The Systems Administrator will play a key role in supporting and implementing a robust infrastructure with scalability, high availability, and security in mind. This role is responsible for the administration, implementation, and troubleshooting of server and end user hardware and software solutions. This position functions as a point of technical services contact for IT and is accountable for technical service request resolution, server administration, support, monitoring, capacity planning, and IT security. Additionally, participates as a technical resource needed in both large and small projects. Leads in implementing security focused solutions and ensuring compliance for end users and systems as it relates to security in accordance with HIPAA and HITECH standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to daily end user support needs, such as hardware, software, peripheral, mobile device, and VOIP phone requests and issues for both on-site and remote users

  • Ability to setup, configure, and roll-out hardware and software as needed

  • Test, image and maintain PC?s, laptop, monitors, printers, and other related hardware.

  • Implement, maintain and support server software and hardware and related applications and systems

  • Implement, maintain and support network infrastructure

  • Manage and administer cloud based email and hosted server solutions

  • Organize and maintain IT Inventory and assist in the deployment/retirement of hardware as needed

  • Document incidents and processes as directed and ensure that all tickets requiring follow up work and/or calls receive appropriate attention

  • Escalate all service requests and change orders that may require additional resources for timely closure or escalated priority

  • Work with 3rd party vendors as required

  • Assist in developing and documenting improvements to current processes

  • Complies with all IS Policies, Procedures and Standards including but not limited to: Systems/Workstation Security, HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations associated with Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI)

  • Use, protect and disclose patients? protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards and enforce such for all direct reports

  • Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties

  • Comply with HIPAA and HiTech Privacy and Security regulations associated with Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI)

  • Report any security or HIPAA violations or concerns to the HIPAA Officer in a timely fashion

  • Stay abreast of new and emerging security threats and mitigation approaches for your respective area and perform periodic security reviews of your assigned areas

  • Ensure all proposed changes follow the Change Management policy and procedure for production changes

  • Assist in standardized design of new and existing processes and policies

  • Research emerging technologies to increase cost effectiveness, system stability and future expandability

  • Ensure system security included but not limited to patching, firewall, antivirus, encryption and intrusion detection

  • Recommend improvements or alternatives based on sound research and experience

  • Ability to identify & execute appropriate escalation steps for problem resolution and root cause analysis

  • Document new and existing procedures, systems architecture, and technology portfolio


  • Minimum of 2-3 years hands-on experience in a Systems Administrator or Senior Support role within a corporate environment

  • Bachelor?s degree in related field, equivalent work experience in the IT field, and/or industry certification(s) such as VMware VCP, Microsoft MCSA or MCSE, ISC2 CISSP

  • Exceptional Customer Service and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong analytical, logical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to be a flexible, team player and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment are a must

  • Ability to complete all assigned tasks as scheduled including, but not limited to:

  • Filling out Standard Checklists as required

  • Log all requests/incidents into the call tracking system ensuring that the user name and related details are recorded accurately

  • Escalating Service Requests to the appropriate group or individuals as required in a timely and efficient manner

  • Successfully and effectively present technical information

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Server 2012/2016 and Windows 10.

  • Working administration knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy

  • Experience with VMware administration, including Virtual Machine builds and troubleshooting

  • Experience troubleshooting enterprise server hardware

  • Knowledge of Powershell scripting

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues using Wireshark and other network analysis tools

  • Knowledge of enterprise infrastructure applications and methodologies such as IIS, SQL, load balancing, and intrusion detection

  • Knowledge of endpoint protection and ability to follow best practices

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Microsoft Office

  • Knowledge of Windows File Server shares and permissions

  • Knowledge of client/server technologies

  • Knowledge of client network technologies

  • Knowledge of Active Directory is a plus

  • Experience using Office 365 is a plus

  • Experience with call center software is a plus

Working Conditions

  • General office environment

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and perform manual labor as needed

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and weekends as needed and be on call

  • Position is based in Clinton Twp, Michigan
