We have a current opening for a Network Technician for our Internet line of business. In this position you will be responsible for working day-to-day with the core service provider network, including the multiple 10Gb rings, equipment, video head-end, and special circuits. Assists with the responsibility of researching and testing of new technologies regarding MEC’s infrastructure. Main point of contact for escalation of active fiber customers and design planning for potential customers. Responsible for all duties of IP Services including installing, configuring, and supporting our multiple 10Gb rings, video head-end, and special circuits. Work with Support Techs to provide Tier III support to customers. Provide training and support to MEC employees.
Key responsibilities include:
Installation and maintenance of LAN/WAN hardware, software and networks involved in voice, data and video communications for internal and external customers.
Provides Tier III support for ISP customers.
Upgrades and maintains external ISP network (servers, switches, databases, etc.)
To be Successful
As our network technician you must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and 3 – 5 years of related experience and Cicsco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related field plus 5 to 7 years of related experience and CCNA. Previous experience as a network administrator is preferred.
Additionally, you have knowledge of:
network protocols and equipment
carrier network maintenance and troubleshooting
internet services and protocols
network and specific Cisco protocols and technologies (Trunks, Dot1q, STP, PIM, MPLS)
Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and IOS-XR
Linux kernel and able to install, configure, and troubleshoot the following Linux programs (Ex: Postfix,
Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, DHCP, DNS, TACACS, etc.) with little to no assistance
advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic tasks
security protocols and practices
IP & IPTV protocols and services
Are skilled in:
installing and troubleshooting special circuits
creating and implementing complex network designs and upgrades
oral and written communication.
providing telephone “help desk” support.
completing multiple tasks at once.
