Nexteer Automotive Systems Safety Engineer - Auburn Hills (2021) in Auburn Hills, Michigan
Functional Safety is an exciting and growing field in the automotive industry. Ensuring the safety of electronic control systems and software features is essential for today’s vehicles. Features like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, leading toward Autonomous Steering, combined with Cyber-Security threats, require solid functional safety argumentation and evidence to support the safety case.
Nexteer is looking for a candidate who can apply the ISO26262 functional safety process to systems like Electric Power Steering, Autonomous Steering Systems, and Steer by Wire Systems in development. The System Safety Engineer supports the full lifecycle of the safety process - from concept and requirements through design and analysis to implementation and testing. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in embedded systems.
This position will be located in Auburn Hills, MI. For the right candidate, we offer a generous relocation package.
Job Responsibilities:
Independently execute system safety activities for assigned projects related to Electric Power Steering
Independently develop safety requirements at multiple levels, including traceability
Independently execute Safety Analysis such as FTA, FMEDA, and FMEA
Independently develop, document, and execute bench and vehicle test procedures including fault injection testing
Required Skills:
2+ years of experience in automotive, electronics, safety, embedded software, or mechanical areas
Awareness of automotive engineering and chassis systems
Awareness of ISO26262, IEC 61508 or similar
Computer skills, especially in spreadsheets and simulation tools
Familiarity with automotive embedded systems, hardware, and/or software
Excellent organization and documentation abilities
Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people
Travel to Saginaw facility for meetings as required
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of project management processes and tools
Awareness of HARA (Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment)
Awareness of FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) tools
Familiarity with failure analysis
Educational Requirements:
Degree: Bachelors Degree required
