Job Overview


The Propulsion Launch Center Senior Systems Engineer for a new electrified propulsion application will be responsible for leading the development and integration of new technology into the next generation of FCA vehicles. The scope of responsibility spans the development, application and optimization of hardware, calibration and control systems for hybrid, electric and conventional propulsion types. The system positions include, but are not limited to:

  • Power Generation

  • Thermal Management

  • Power Distribution & Coordination

Each role will work cross functionally to develop virtual strategies, then thru the Technology Readiness process, demonstrate a system solution on engine, powertrain or chassis dynos. The Propulsion Launch Center Senior Systems Engineer will then integrate the solution into a new vehicle application, assuring vehicle level objectives are met thru launch. He/she will make data based decisions to document all changes through rigorous development and test plans. The Propulsion Launch Center Senior Systems Engineer will present and justify changes to a lead calibrator, chief engineer, and senior management as appropriate.

This individual will have also demonstrated the ability to work well with others. They must be a team player, supporting and promoting team accomplishments versus personal achievement

Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Support construction of virtual models to simulate system performance

  • Provide expertise to correlate vehicle, dyno, and virtual datasets

  • Work closely with controls team to ensure and define feature functionality

  • Provide guidance for calibrators to assure system performance objectives

  • Support trips and report activities for senior management

  • Work with the CoE teams to ensure best practices are developed and followed

  • Point contact for system issues in their functional area

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited university

  • Minimum of FIVE (5) years accumulated experience in powertrain development

  • Prior experience with hardware, controls, or calibration development in the following areas: powertrain systems, OBD, emissions systems, torque control, and virtual analysis

  • Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data

  • MATLAB / SIMULINK experience for control theory development

  • Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions regulations, engine technologies and competitive products

  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • High level of analytic ability and creativity

  • Ability to balance work effectively on multiple issues

  • Develop and action a disciplined test plan to ensure verification is appropriate

  • Must have strong knowledge of the powertrain system

  • Experience in Powertrain Control solutions development (powertrain control algorithms, On-board Diagnostics/OBD, embedded software)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques

  • Proficient in advanced simulation tools

  • Master’s / PhD degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) proactive engineering methods
