Providing important research tools and curating treasure troves of content has helped ProQuest to become an industry leader in the Information Services market.Technology ManagerWhat will I be doing?The Technology Manager at ProQuest is responsible for managing a software development team in day-to-day operations, leading project and team activities, recruiting and retention.

In this position, you will also…• Work with the business and engineering teams on aligning engineer activities with company goals and prioritize and set up timelines for projects.• Be responsible for architecture, design, delivery, and quality of software.• Be responsible for uptime and reliability of our systems.• Determine new procedures from employee input for the continued development of high-quality processes and systems.• Manage multiple projects at one time, balancing numerous needs while adhering to schedules and deadlines.• Provide functional oversight to technical and non-technical staff.• Provide training and mentoring to team members.• Keep apprised of, propose, and evaluate new technology solutions for company use.• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training and mentoring engineers

This is a technical management position, the following skills and experience is needed….

DevOps Skills: • Comfort with working on the Linux command-line• Understanding of admin and configuration of systems such as web servers, app servers, and databases• Understanding of distributed systems, setup, and troubleshooting of network connectivity • Tracking and monitoring uptime and system KPIs• Troubleshooting problems of complex nature

Design Skills: • Communicate with product management, users and other technical teams to collect requirements, describe software product features, and create technical designs. • Lead design and development of projects, consider impacts of design on performance, the need for operational requirements such as run-time monitoring and troubleshooting, and to be able to deliver a robust solution that performs in a production environment.

Software Engineering: • Adopter of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build and deployment automation and test automation.

Technical skills: • Knowledge of a Linux environment• Experience with distributed systems build with web services and REST architectures (including knowledge of XML/JSON data formats)• Knowledge of EDI is a plus• Knowledge of modern JavaScript- based web apps is a plus

Our technical environment includes: You are not expected to be an expert in these technologies but should have the ability to dig into a specific area and guide team members as needed.

• Progress/OpenEdge database and ABL apps• Windows .Net/Angular-based web apps• MongoDB and SQL Server databases• Solr

Qualified Candidates must have…• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, plus 10 or more years’ of related technology experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.• 5 or more years of supervisory or management experience.• Masterful understanding of tools and technologies in specific functional area.• Masterful understanding and application of several programming languages.• Ability to work in an agile environment.
